The World According to Asiankeng...

By popular demand, I have returned!! All two of you faithful blog-readers clamoring for more mindless drivel, prepare to be completely underwhelmed by my last blog offering of 2007.

On direct recommendation from the one plea I requested (thanks, bdurham) I hereby present to you the most warped view of this past year. My head has been stuck in the sand of statistics so I apologize for any events I may have overlooked. Therefore, without further ado and in no particular order, I give you AsianKeng's Top Highlights of 2007:
  • The passing of opera legend, Luciano Pavoratti. May his voice soar with the angels. Vincero!!
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Snape exonerated, Ron and Hermione consummated, and nineteen years later with children named Rose and HUGO? We will miss you, Harry.
  • Facebook. Countless hours of my life, gone. Join if you dare. But a veritable analyst's treasure cove? You decide.
  • Gmail Group Chat. And Google text. I revere you, Google.
  • Guitar Hero. Nuff said.
  • Once and its soundtrack and everything associated with it.
  • Philanthropists and logophiles, unite! Donate rice to the needy with your vocabulary.
  • And although I'm not ranking here, I view this as so fantastically wonderful that I feel all of you need to take a 3 minute 57 second break and just revel with me in the joys that make life happy.

Forgive the relative brevity, but it's taking my brain a bit of time to get back on it's creative blogging, um... spinal cord tenacula...? So help me out here... what were YOUR favorite moments of 2007??

*A serious note could not overlook the tragedies and heroic moments of the year as well... for those of you who lost loved ones or gained new ones, my heart goes out to all of you and best of wishes for a Forthcoming Fabulous 2008!

That clip was delightful. Jake Gyllenhall has forever changed how I will view the longest, most drawn-out scene from "Dream Girls" ever. Perfect.

Here are some of the Shark's highlights of 2007:

-Graduating from the film program at BYU.
-"Transformers" on the big screen. Holy Moses.
-Discovering the goodness of "13 Going on 30" (and maintaining my masculinity)
-Studying film theory.
-Tony Bennett on tour. The last living legend of his kind. And I got to see him.
-They Might Be Giants at the 9:30 club. There's nothing quite like yelling "Damn good times!" with a large crowd.
-The exciting last four episodes of "Heroes: Volume Two" that almost made me wet my pants.

That's all for now.

I actually WAS going to include a comment on Heroes' crappiest sophomore season ever (and I am not entirely sure the last four episodes made up for it, exciting as they were; jury's still out on that one) but that's not exactly a highlight. Well neither is Pavoratti dying but I've always been a hypocrite...

I'm not going to lie, 2007 has really been a red-letter year for me. I may even blog about it myself, but for now here are some highlights:

-Freezing my tail off in NYC in January on what could have been the coldest day of my life.
-The best Valentine's Day of my life (the other V-day's for which I actually had a significant other, we actually broke up)
-Finally finding a Master's Program that fit my every desire and being accepted to it
-Getting the job for which I was going to grad school, and having them pay for the degree
-One last summer vacation full of idleness and pool time
-Discovering the midwest (I went to Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma City twice)
-Top that off with falling in love and getting engaged...

It's going to be really tough to beat 2007!!

1. Celebrating my 1st wedding anniversary!
2. Giving birth to my first born--a girl!
3. Graduating from culinary school.
4. Getting off bedrest for a week before delivering.
5. Enjoying our little family.
6. Spending our first Christmas with a kid!
7. Surviving my baking externship!
8. I lost a nephew this year, but was so grateful to be able to attend his funeral and bond with my family. Family deaths always bring the sweet reality of the plan of salvation and eternal families. It was a miracle to witness the blessings his family received after his death and knowing the Lord loved them.

2008 will be a big year for JIm so he can graduate from law school and take the bar! We look forward to another good year.

I'm really surprised at how badly this season of "Heroes" has been received. Yes, it did start off too slow, and there were a couple characters I didn't care about, and I hated how Claire's character changed, but holy heck -- it's still WORLDS better than "24" season 1 was, which left me disappointed after hearing so much overhype about it. I still really enjoyed the season.

I don't feel that this barrage of negativity is called for with regard to Heroes Season 2. I think it is unrealistic, and frankly every fan of anything I've ever met has always been let down by a season of television following an amazing one. Even though that fight between Peter and Sylar was pitiful, the season in general received a lot of hype. There has to be a downhill slide. Preparation, if you will, for another peak. It can't all be amazing all the time. Plus, I don't even feel that the season was that bad! Of course there is the strange Mexican chick with her creepy black tears power, but the whole storyline of Peter going lost was pretty fulfilling. Elle is a good character too, and so is her dad who can turn stuff into gold. I think we need to dial it down and reach for a little perspective. Heroes still rocks.

I've never seen Heroes, but I did:

Get a Master's degree despite turning in the paperwork 4 months late;

Stay up all night to read Harry Potter VII;

Teach a college course for the first time;

Go to Qatar for Christmas and swam in the Arabian Gulf.

JenR: don't forget The Graduation Party. Seriously. Canapes all around!! And Kate at the center of attention, of course :)

UPC, if you will recall, the second season of Alias only reaffirmed the faith in awesome shows. The second season of Heroes left me sadly disappointed... when the director/writer himself offers a profuse public apology, I think it sufficient to just chalk it up to a learning experience, like that summer boyfriend you sort of wished you'd never kissed...

Jen- it was so fun seeing you over Christmas! Thank you so much for stopping by. You're a gem. ;) Favorite memories include having a baby & celebrating the holidays with friends and family in Virginia. Also have to add making wonderful friends in Roseburg (didn't think it'd ever happen!) ;)
Tons of love,
Jenny

Can't comment on "Heroes", since my "Heroes" exposure extends to 15 minutes total when I happened to be in the same living area of my beloved roommates on Monday nights. I was the one who tried to draw people out to Trivia Nights... But, to add to 2007 highlights:

1. Driving across the United States TWICE...visiting for the first time the states of TN, AL, GA, MS. And, not related to the drive, but also WA.
2. Finally stamping my passport with Germany and Italy stamps.
3. Viewing Michaelangelo and da Vinci masterpieces, including the David.
4. Happening across Foamhenge in nowhere, VA.
5. Experiencing the Last Frontier
6. Learning to do night photography
7. Having the best roommates send-offs (twice in one year)!

My baptism into the world that is Wegman's.

Boo, I'll have to refind the video. It's priceless. And so is Wegmans.

Thanks for all the great memories all! Sharing them with you is what makes them so great. :)

I think the director did it purely for the sake of PR. I stand firm in my belief that people are generally getting too carried away in negativity regarding the second season of "Heroes."

I fixed the video! Google video rocks. I should have just gone with them in the first place. They've also shortened the break to 2 minutes and 40 seconds, so you really don't have any excuse not to watch it anymore.
